10:15am – NDSC ROCO Rescue Class (Dustin Austin)

  • ROCO is a premier rescue organization offering Industrial Rescue (Confined Space), Suspended Worker Rescue, Rescue I-Plus
  • NDSC Conference coming up February 20-23
  • NDSC has formed a Trenching/Excavation alliance with OSHA to offer industry resources

10:20am – Summary of Changes to ANSI Z390.1 (James O’Dwyer)

ANSI Z390.1 = 2017 Accepted Practices for Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Training Programs

  • Enforcement guidelines for upstream oil and gas
  • Broadening scope beyond chemical and oil and gas
  • More flexible training delivery and content
  • Visitor training exemption
  • Student contact time (specific: 3-4 hours)
  • Instructor qualifications
  • Competency to ensure student performance
  • Site-specific orientation requirement and training (EAP)
  • Training procedure verifications
  • Mandatory annual recertification and time
  • Respiratory protection program including ANSI Z88.2

James O’Dwyer is a safety trainer for PEC. Asked for constructive feedback on PEC experiences/trainers to ensure continued quality.

  • 2018 MonDaks goals – can confer with 19 other Steps networks
  • Billings/Bismarck OSHA alliances – currently regulatory representatives attend quarterly, could stagger regulatory branches’ attendance to ensure their presence monthly
  • Discussed MonDaks meeting frequency – Is once a month too often? Is quarterly not often enough? Should we meet every other month with open community forum events in the “off” months? Should we have vendors rent booths to set up during meetings?
